PLATE 00A SETTLEMENT FIELD ATLAS

Make a home
of the unknown.

Descend into a continent-sized dry sinkhole. Read every layer, route every drop, and build a settlement that belongs to the stone instead of conquering it.

01READ THE WALL

Every decision begins as a sample

Four layers.
Four kinds of promise.

The abyss is not empty space. It is a record of pressure, water, heat, and time. Survey first; the right stratum can hold a garden, a kiln, or an entire district.

SELECTED SAMPLELS—01 / 14B

Pale limestone

Easy to cut, slow to warm, and stable where the fossil bands run level. Best for first shelters and cool stores.

Homes + cisterns

SURVEYOR'S NOTETap twice. A hollow answer means water may be closer than stone.

02MAKE IT LIVABLE

A settlement is a chain of dependencies

Stone first.
People always.

No prefabricated city survives the descent. Shape districts around shade, seep lines, and old fractures, then connect them with lifts that consume only what the settlement can replace.

  1. 01

    Sound the wall

Mark hollow chambers, stable bands, and fractures before the first anchor enters stone.

  2. 02

    Catch the seep

Build gravity cisterns above every dwelling. Pumps are a last resort, not a plan.

  3. 03

    Carve the commons

Place kitchens, clinics, and workshops at the centre of each walkable terrace.

  4. 04

    Link the ledges

Balance ropeways, stairs, and freight lifts against wind, load, and repair time.

24°

Follow the shade

Sun exposure changes by depth and season. Warm workshops; protect water and homes.

08L

Count every drop

Water follows fractures, not maps. Redirect it gently or lose the source forever.

01×

Repair what you build

Every structure adds a maintenance promise. Growth without care is another collapse.

03GO BELOW THE MAP

Prepare a route, then accept what changes

The blank space
is never blank.

Send small crews beyond the last surveyed anchor. Weather, fatigue, and unstable stone turn every route into a story you must bring home.

Before you descend.

Short answers copied from the survey office wall.

A deliberate settlement strategy about geological surveying, resource chains, and caring for a small community. It can be played solo or cooperatively with up to four surveyors.
